Larry W. Melton, 67, Augusta County Crash; Man lost His Life After Vehicle Strikes Tree

A quiet stretch of roadway in Augusta County has become the scene of profound loss as the community mourns Larry W. Melton, 67, of Millboro, who died in a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded around 4:10 p.m. on April 28 to Little Calf Pasture Highway, roughly 2.3 miles south of Old Parkersburg Turnpike, following reports of a serious crash involving one vehicle.

When emergency crews arrived, they found that Melton had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators reported that he was driving a Chevy 3500 when, for reasons still being examined, the vehicle crossed a double solid centerline, left the roadway, and struck a tree with significant force. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and no other vehicles were involved.

As authorities continue to review the circumstances, the focus in the community has shifted to mourning the sudden loss of a longtime resident. Friends, neighbors, and family are grappling with the reality of a life ended unexpectedly, remembering Larry not through the crash itself, but through the years of connection he shared with those around him.

In small towns like Millboro, losses like this are deeply felt. Familiar places feel different, routines are interrupted by absence, and the silence left behind by someone well known becomes its own kind of grief.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the incident as loved ones begin the difficult process of remembering and honoring his life.

Larry W. Melton is being remembered with sadness and respect, and for the life he lived among those who knew him best.
