John Albert Guillen, Santa Ana Shooting; Authorities Are Carrying Out Homicide Investigation

A homicide investigation is in progress in Orange County after a man was fatally shot in broad daylight, leading to a major police response and temporary road closures in a nearby residential area.

Officers with the Santa Ana Police Department responded around 12:30 p.m. to the area of Third Street and Daisy Avenue in Santa Ana’s Artesia Pilar neighborhood following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was later identified as 58-year-old John Albert Guillen.

Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but Guillen was pronounced dead.

Video circulating on the Citizen showed a heavy police presence, with multiple streets cordoned off by crime scene tape as investigators processed the area. A canopy was set up over the victim before officers blocked public view.

Preliminary information indicates Guillen may have been entering his vehicle when the shooting occurred. Investigators believe the incident could be gang-related, though no arrests have been made and the suspect remains at large.

Authorities have not released a description of the suspect. Residents were advised to avoid the area while the scene was active, which was cleared later in the evening.

Detectives continue to seek witnesses and additional information. Anyone with details is urged to contact the Santa Ana Police Department’s Homicide Section.
