With heavy hearts, the Burkeville community is mourning the loss of Alex Lamont Mahan, 48, of Burkeville, Virginia, who died following a single-vehicle crash in Nottoway County.
According to the Virginia State Police, the crash happened on Sunday, April 26, 2026, around 5:53 p.m. along Lewiston Plank Road, roughly half a mile south of Lone Pine Road.
Investigators reported that Mahan was driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder northbound when, for reasons still under review, the vehicle left the roadway. Preliminary findings suggest he lost control of the SUV and overcorrected while attempting to regain control, causing it to veer off the road and strike a tree with significant force.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided medical assistance before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Despite those efforts, he later died from his injuries.
Officials confirmed that no other vehicles were involved. The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and no additional details have been released.
