Deerfield Beach Middle School Shooting – Threats investigated at schools in Deerfield Beach and Weston, BSO says
Two Broward County schools were temporarily placed on lockdown Wednesday after authorities received reports of potential threats, prompting a rapid response from law enforcement and school officials.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said the first report came around 12:30 p.m., involving a possible threat at Deerfield Beach Middle School. Roughly 15 minutes later, a second report was received concerning Cypress Bay High School.
Both campuses were placed on lockdown as a precaution while deputies and detectives responded to investigate. The swift action was taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff as authorities worked to assess the credibility of the threats.
Cypress Bay High School was later given the all clear after officials determined there was no immediate danger. Investigations into the situation at Deerfield Beach Middle School were still ongoing at the time of the latest update, though no confirmed threat had been identified.
Officials with Broward County Public Schools said the incidents were linked to an anonymous tip reporting a possible threat. In a statement, the district reassured families that school administrators were working closely with law enforcement.
“There is no immediate indication of danger. The safety of students and staff remains our top priority,” the statement read.
While the threats have not been substantiated, the incident underscores the importance of quick coordination between schools and law enforcement in maintaining campus safety and responding to potential risks.
