Granby Shooting Today – Norfolk Dual School Lockdown After Shooting Alert
Several Norfolk, Virginia schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after reports of a nearby shooting prompted a large police response.
Norfolk Public Schools confirmed that Granby Elementary School and Granby High School were placed under lockdown as a precaution after gunshots were reported in the surrounding area. Officials said the lockdown was still in effect during the initial response as authorities worked to assess any potential threat to students and staff.
Norfolk Collegiate also implemented a short external lockdown, bringing students inside as a safety measure while police investigated. That lockdown was later lifted after the school received an all-clear from the Norfolk Police Department.
Police confirmed officers were responding to a reported shooting in the 200 block of Harvard Street, which is located near the affected schools. However, authorities stated that no gunshot victim was found and no injuries have been reported.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing gunfire, including one individual inside Granby Elementary at the time of the incident, according to local reports.
School officials emphasized that student safety was the top priority and followed standard emergency procedures while law enforcement secured the area. Dismissal times proceeded with caution as the investigation continued.
Authorities are still reviewing the incident and have not released additional details about what led to the reported gunfire.
