Payson Groff, born March 8, 2011, in Kankakee, Illinois, was a student at Herscher High School. She was known for her curiosity, creativity, and strong sense of determination. She had hopes of one day attending Northwestern University and pursuing a career in law, reflecting her drive and ambition for the future.

She enjoyed a wide range of activities and interests, including art, drawing, softball, and track. She also found joy in everyday hobbies like gaming, spending time online with friends, and expressing herself creatively. One of the ways she shared that creativity was through a TikTok cooking series she created with a close friend, which reflected her humor and personality.

She was known by loved ones as a caring sister and a valued friend who brought energy and personality into the lives of those around her. Her faith was also an important part of her life, and she was connected to her church community.

She is survived by her parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, and many friends who are deeply grieving her loss. She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Judy Arnold.

As family and community members prepare for visitation and services through Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home and Faith Baptist Church, many are gathering to support one another and reflect on her life. While her time was far too short, she is remembered for the connections she made and the memories she leaves behind.
